About and History of Mosvold Hospital
Mosvold Hospital is a public hospital within Umkhanyakude districs in Kwazulu Natal (KZN).
Mosvold Hospital is in Ingwavuma, 410km from Durban. We are a 168 bed district hospital serving a population of 110,000 people. Most of those served are Zulu, with a substantial number of Swazis. The population is severely affected by HIV/AIDs and tuberculosis. The region has also suffered malaria epidemics, however good malaria control has been achieved since 2001, probably due to a reintroduction of DDT house-spraying, the introduction of the new anti-malarial Coartem, and also the introduction of insecticide house-spraying in nearby Mozambique. Trauma is relatively mild by South African standards. The hospital sees 49,000 outpatients per year and admits 8,000, with an average stay of 7 days. There are six wards in the hospital; Male, Female, Paediatric, Maternity, Isolation and Tuberculosis. The HIV/AIDS department mainly run by nurses and councellors.
