General Justice Gizenga Mpanza Regional Hospital is a 545-bed regional hospital in Stanger, in the iLembe health district. It is still widely known as Stanger Hospital. Serves about 600 000 people in the iLembe district, and takes referrals from three district hospitals, two community health centres and 33 clinics. Formerly Stanger Hospital, renamed after Umkhonto weSizwe general Justice Gizenga Mpanza, born at Groutville Mission Reserve on 5 September 1937 and imprisoned on Robben Island for 15 years. It sits on the N2, which keeps its trauma unit busy, and delivers 550 to 600 babies a month.
