About and History of Life Kingsbury Hospital Cape Town

In 2014 the long-awaited amalgamation of Life Claremont and Life Kingsbury Hospitals took place, putting this Claremont Hospital in a position to offer its patients an even wider range of excellent health services as well as a holistic healing environment. The excellent facilities and caring staff make it possible to focus on high-quality treatment, whether for routine, more serious, or extensive procedures.

The hospital has 226 beds, 11 theatres, an accident and emergency unit with a doctor on duty 24/7, as well as state-of-the-art diagnostic and monitoring equipment. New technology includes the first da Vinci X robotic surgical system in Africa (to find out more – scroll down to the bottom of this page for Special Services). There is a dedicated team of first-class health professionals at this hospital dedicated to delivering a special brand of healthcare to patients. Kingsbury Hospital warmly welcomes the involvement of patients’ loved ones in their care and recovery process. To ensure the well-being and privacy of our patients, we have established specific visiting hours and guidelines across different wards. Here’s a detailed overview to help you plan your visit:


🌈 General Wards: GIT, Medical, and Surgical 1 to 4 Visiting Hours

  • Afternoon Visits: 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
  • Evening Visits: 7:15 PM – 8:15 PM
  • Visitor Limit: A maximum of one visitor per patient is allowed to maintain privacy.

❤️ Intensive Care Unit (ICU) & High Care (HC) Unit Visiting Hours

  • Morning Visits: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM (Subject to the Unit Manager’s discretion)
  • Afternoon Visits: 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
  • Evening Visits: 7:15 PM – 8:15 PM
  • Children: No visitors under 12 years old are allowed.
  • Note: Additional visits may be permitted at the Unit Manager’s discretion.

🤱 Maternity Ward Visiting Hours

  • Husband/Partner: Anytime between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM, except during the rest period (1:00 PM – 3:00 PM).
  • Grandparents: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Afternoon Visits: 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
  • Evening Visits: 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Children: Only the patient’s children are allowed to visit.

👶 Neonatal ICU (NICU) Visiting Hours

  • Parents: Open visiting hours.
  • Grandparents: Short visits over weekends between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM, at the discretion of the Registered Nurse in charge.
  • Health Precaution: Visiting is discouraged for anyone who is or has recently been ill. Ill parents will be provided with a mask.
